What personal data we collect and why we collect it


When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

Contact forms

If you use a contact form to email us, your name and email and any content that you type into the form will be saved so that we may reply to you.


If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

When you visit our site, Popup Maker will set a cookie to display a popup about our privacy policy and cookie use, and a separate popup will set a cookie to offer you to subscribe to our newsletter. These cookie expires after 1 week.

If you fill out the form from the popup to subscribe to our newsletter, it will set an additional cookie so that you are not annoyed by being continually offered that form. This cookie will expire when you clear your browser’s cash.

If you use the reaction feature at the end of each story post, DaReactions will set a cookie to allow you to change your reaction if you selected the wrong one, and to prevent you from reacting multiple times to the same post.

Subscription forms and email newsletter

If you submit a subscription form on our site you will be opting in for us to save your name, email address and other relevant information on our local server.

To send you emails, we use the name and email address you provide us. Our site also logs the IP address you used when you signed up for the service to prevent abuse of the system.

This website sends emails through the MailPoet sending service. This service allows us to track opens and clicks on our emails. We use this information to improve the content of our newsletters. No identifiable information is otherwise tracked outside this website except for the email address.

You can opt our or unsubscribe at any time in the future by clicking the link in the bottom of any email.

Who we share your data with

We share your name, email, and IP address with our newsletter provider, Mail Poet, only if you subscribe to our newsletter.

Where we send your data

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.

If you donate to our website through the PayPal donation button, you will be taken to PayPal’s website to complete your transaction. We do not collect or retain your data from this transaction.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

What rights you have over your data

If you have left comments on this site, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
