The Woodcutters

Deep in the heart of an ancient forest, two woodcutters sawed for hours to cut down a tree, but made hardly a scratch in the giant oak.

Exhausted, they sat down on the tree roots and wondered aloud why they could not make a dent.

“Do not touch my bark,” came a voice from the forest.

Both men jumped, but seeing their friend walking toward them from the path, they sighed in relief. With his help, they started back to work.

Soon, the tree opened up and swallowed all three men, who were never to be heard from again.
